Saif Ali Khan's family may lose their property worth Rs 15,000 crore.

In a significant court ruling pertaining to one of the longest-running royal property disputes in Bhopal, the Madhya Pradesh High Court in India has overturned a trial court ruling that was rendered two decades ago and mandated a new hearing in the well-known case involving the descendants of the late Mohammad Hamidullah Khan, the former Nawab of Bhopal, according to NDTV.

In 2000, a single bench of Justice Sanjay Dwivedi delivered the verdict on initial appeals, ruling that the District Court, Bhopal, had mistakenly rejected the civil actions related to the distribution of the Nawab's estate.

A now-overturned precedent established by the Allahabad High Court in the Talat Fatima Hasan case served as the foundation for the trial court's decision. The appellants, which include Saif Ali Khan, his sister, and prominent celluloid personality Sharmila Tagore, are a family.

In 1999, two civil lawsuits were brought to obtain possession, partition, and an accurate accounting of the ancestral estate, which included a comprehensive list of properties in various categories.

They argued that, according to Muslim Personal Law, Nawab Hamidullah Khan's heirs, not just his daughter Begum Sajida Sultan, should have inherited the properties, which were said to be his personal possessions, after his death in 1960.

But in a letter dated January 10, 1962, the Indian government acknowledged Sajida Sultan as the only heir, citing the 1949 Bhopal Merger Agreement and clauses found in Article 366(22) of the Constitution.
