The elected government is essential to reviving the economy: Fakhrul

In order to boost the nation's faltering economy, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized Monday the importance of electing a government through a legitimate election.

He told Shawkat Aziz Russell, president of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), at the BNP office in Gulshan, "There is no option but an elected administration to rebuild the economy."

According to Fakhrul, the BNP is striving to guarantee the establishment of a democratic administration by holding a free, fair, and acceptable national election.

He stated that the private sector is essential to creating jobs and that the BNP will give private sector development first priority in order to combat unemployment.

Russell, the president of BTMA, commended the BNP for its dedication to multi-party democracy and for valuing diverse viewpoints.

He remembered that Ziaur Rahman, the former president and founder of the BNP, valued the private sector in bolstering the country's economy.

Russell, who criticized the previous Awami League government, claimed that corruption under Sheikh Hasina had seriously harmed the nation's banking, trade, and commerce industries.

He promised that the business community will help the BNP overcome the current economic crisis and create a corruption-free Bangladesh if it were elected to power.

Aspects of the nation's economy were also reviewed during the discussion.
