Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah briefs reporters following a meeting at the Election Commission Secretariat in Agargaon on 4 JuneProthom AloAccording to an Election Commission member on Wednesday, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will soon be able to re-register along with its electoral symbol, the Scales (Dāripalla).
"Jamaat-e-Islami's registration will be restored shortly. We are acting as needed. After a meeting at the Election Commission Secretariat in Agargaon, Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah informed media, "The Election Commission has made a decision in this regard."
Other commissioners and high-ranking officials attended the meeting, which was chaired by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin.
Commissioner Sanaullah discussed the party's electoral symbol, stating that the EC has decided to give the scales emblem back to Jamaat-e-Islami.
When asked about the recent dispute surrounding Ishraque Hossain, the commissioner stated that the official gazette publication after the election marked the end of the EC's duties.
From announcing the polling schedule to publishing the results in the gazette, our responsibilities are extensive. "The Election Commission does not have the authority to administer oaths," he stated.
"In our opinion, the Election Commission has complied with its constitutional duties. It has fulfilled its obligations," Sanaullah continued.
The action coincides with fresh debates about the political future of Jamaat-e-Islami, which was banned after a 2013 court decision ruled that its charter violated the Constitution.
