Dhaka rejects forming a new partnership with Islamabad and Beijing.


 A new alliance between Bangladesh, China, and Pakistan was ruled out on Thursday by Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain, who also emphasized that it was not intended to target Bangladesh's neighbor, India.

"No alliance is being formed by us. In response to a query, he told reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "It was an official level meeting, not a political level...there was no element of forming of any coalition."

When asked if the meeting was intended to corner India, adviser Hossain responded that it was definitely not directed at a third party. "I promise you."

On June 19, during the 9th China-South Asia Exposition and the 6th China-South Asia Cooperation Summit in Kunming, Bangladesh, China, and Pakistan conducted a "informal" trilateral meeting, according to Dhaka.

According to Beijing, China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh had "intense talks on trilateral cooperation" and decided to proceed on the basis of shared development, equality, openness, mutual trust, good neighborliness, and mutual trust.

However, the meeting was referred to as the "inaugural meeting of Bangladesh-China-Pakistan trilateral mechanism" by Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

When asked if Dhaka disputes the descriptions Beijing and Islamabad gave of the meeting, adviser Hossain emphasized that it was "not anything large and not something structured," but he said there was no need to reject anything.
