Bangladesh reached 144-5 at teatime on Day 1 of the second and final cricket test at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo today, struggling to contain Sri Lankan bowling.
At the second interval of the day, Mehidy Hasan Miraz had not yet scored and veteran Mushfiqur Rahim was batting at 34.
Early in the day, starter Anamul Haque Bijoy went out for a 10-ball duck, which was a blow to Bangladesh. Now, his three innings in Sri Lanka are 0–4, 0–4.
As the Sri Lankan bowlers moved and swung the ball in the air brilliantly, he once again found himself laboring in the crease.
After bowler Asitha Fernando bowled a back of length delivery that nipped back in, he dragged one on to his stump, ending his 10-ball ordeal.
At first, Shadman appeared visibly uncomfortable as well, but Mominul Haque's firm approach gradually relieved his tension.
Before pushing a wide delivery from Dhananjaya de Silva straight to cover, Mominul played with the utmost confidence. For his 39-ball-21, he hit three fours.
However, the game was postponed for about two hours due to the arrival of rain soon after the lunch break.
Bangladesh was thrashed again following the rain break, losing set batsman Shadman Islam and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto in back-to-back overs.
