Ahead of Sunday's Club World Cup matchup against Inter Miami, Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique stated that facing former player Lionel Messi will be a "emotional" reunion for both him and the French team, according to BSS.

Luis Enrique trained Messi and a number of other current Inter Miami players at Barcelona before Messi joined PSG in 2021.

The attacker left in 2023, the same summer the Spaniard joined PSG. Despite winning two Ligue 1 titles, the forward was unable to provide the French team with the Champions League victory they so desperately wanted.

In the end, Luis Enrique guided PSG to victory in Europe this season as they defeated Inter Milan on May 31 to win the trophy for the first time.

Luis Enrique said during a press conference on Saturday, "I think the game in an emotional sense is significant for me, without a question, for the club too, and the players who have been here with Messi."

The coach also expressed excitement about playing against Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Javier Mascherano, the manager of Inter Miami, all of whom he coached during Barcelona's 2015 treble victory.

Before the game in Atlanta, he added, "It is lovely to see these players, who are more than just footballers for me, it will be amazing before and after the game."

Messi's presence, according to Luis Enrique, would inspire his PSG team, who are among the clear favorites to win the tournament.
