After two centuries against Sri Lanka, Najmul achieves his highest ranking to date.
Bangladesh's captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (2R) jumps as he celebrates after scoring a century (100 runs) during the fifth and final day of the first Test cricket match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at the Galle International Cricket Stadium in Galle on June 21, 2025AFP
Najmul Hossain Shanto, the captain of Bangladesh, achieved his career-high ranking in the ICC Test rankings as a reward for his amazing performance in the Galle Test.
Thanks to his 148 and 125 not out in the Galle Test, which ended in a dull draw, Shanto rose a massive 21 spots to a career-best 29th position in the most recent rankings, which were revealed by the ICC today.
With the achievement, Shanto became just the fifteenth batsman in Test cricket history to score hundreds in both Test innings.
Prior to the first Test of New Zealand's 2023 tour of Bangladesh, he had risen as high as 42nd in the rankings.
Shanto is not Bangladesh's best hitter in the Test rankings, even though he achieved the pinnacle of his career.
Despite scoring 163 and 49 runs in two innings during the Galle Test, Mushfiqur Rahim was still ranked as Bangladesh's top batsman by the ICC. According to the most recent report, the former captain of Bangladesh has jumped 11 spots to 28th place.
During the 2022 tour of Sri Lanka, Mushfiqur achieved his highest rating of 17th in the rankings.
After scoring 90 and 3 at Galle, Liton Das dropped three spots to 40th place. By dropping five spots to 51, Mominul Haque, another former captain, also met his demise.
Shadman Islam, the opener, rose three spots to a career-high 55 runs after scoring 14 and 76 runs in that Test.
He is one spot ahead of all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who was sick and missed the Galle Test. After being cut from the Colombo Test team, Jaker Ali Anik fell 14 spots to 69th rank.
Pathum Nishanka, the opener for Sri Lanka, has risen 21 spots to a career-high 31st after scoring an incredible 187 runs in the first innings in the Galle Test. At the completion of his Test career, Angelo Mathews was ranked 26th among batters. The Sri Lankan celebrity has dropped three spots from the top three in the rankings in 2014.
The star of England's triumph against India at Headingley last night, Ben Duckett, has moved up five spots to a career-high seventh position. Indian sensation Rishabh Pant has risen one spot to seventh rank after becoming the second wicketkeeper-batter in history to hit a double century in Test matches. The top six in the batting rankings have not changed. Joe Root of England is at the top.
