Following a flag meeting at the Johorpur border in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) turned over BSF member Ganesh Murti, a senior constable of the Nurpur Border outpost of the 71st BSF Battalion, to Indian authorities at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Lieutenant Colonel Fahad Mahmud, the commanding commander of BGB Battalion 53 Chapainawabganj, gave Prothom Alo confirmation of the situation.
Around 8:00 am, residents of the Sadar upazila arrested BSF member Ganesh Murti, who was from the Johorpur–Tek border area. When BGB heard the news, they arrested him.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Fahad Mahmud, Ganesh Murti was apprehended by the locals after he entered Bangladeshi territory through the Satrasia region of the Johorpur border while in possession of weapons and ammunition. Later, he was saved and taken to their outpost by BGB patrol squads. When he got arrested, he was intoxicated.
Fahad Mahmud added that the BSF member was turned over to the Indian authorities in accordance with the correct protocols after a flag conference between the BGB and BSF company commanders took place at 11:30 am today. The BGB vehemently objected to the BSF member's unapproved attendance at the meeting.
